Additional Information

Students focus on building career skills at Foothill Technology High School in the sector of Information & Communication Technologies by registering for courses in Codesign: the Software [& Systems] Development Pathway.

A CTE pathway is a series of courses enriched with skills and experiences in a focused career sector.

At Foothill, we offer Codesign, a software development pathway that everyone can begin in grade 9, 10 or grade 11. The pathway requires 2 courses, the concentrator and the capstone. There are other classes available for students that are interested in pursuing more related content.

An INTEREST FORM is completed in January for students who wish to enroll in Codesign pathway classes during course registration each year. This allows for program planning and invitations to special events prior to course enrollment. All students are welcome to enroll in the year 1 course with no application required (even if not sure about completing the pathway).

Students enroll in pathway-specific courses.  Two courses are required to qualify for pathway recognition/enrollment.  Pathway courses are funded by various CTE grant monies and include extended opportunities for enrolled students in the form of guest speakers, field trips, special events, job shadows and, possibly, internships in the industry.

We require the course order given below to ensure maximum success and mastery of content.

  1. Structured Programming or Honors Structured Programming ( C++ )
  2. Honors Object-Oriented Programming and Applied Design ( Java )
  3. Options for additional courses - CTE Leadership/Internship or Makerspace: Applied Algorithms or Exploring Computer Science/Web Development 1 (HTML,CSS,Javascript)

Honors Structured Programming ( C++ ) is based on local college curriculum standards to support dual enrollment with Moorpark College's CS M125 course or Ventura College's CS V30 course..

Honors Object-Oriented Programming and Applied Design ( Java ) is based on local college curriculum standards to support dual enrollment with Moorpark College's CS M110J course or Ventura College's CS V40 course..

All pathway courses are UC Subject "G" approved. All courses offer support in dual enrollment for the purpose of earning college credit..  The 2 Honors courses are recognized as "honors" courses for UC Subject A-G.
