College and Career Seminar serves as the Foothill Technology High School freshdragon transition home base. We are more than a "College and Career Seminar" course.
College and Career Seminar is a curriculum of college, career and consumer readiness.. Students use surveys, research and self-reflection to identify who they are, what they want and how to reach their goals.
This course addresses the need for students to determine their personal interests as a guide in setting high school, college, career and life goals. We use digital tools and computer technologies as the vehicle for research and project/product development so that all students are exposed to and develop skills in a variety of computer literacies that they can use in personal and professional circumstances. We address issues of character, communication and school culture in assisting students to transition successfully into their high school program.
An investigation into careers from among the 16 Career & Technical Education clusters pervades the year through online research, video and guest speaker opportunities. Students share their findings using tools of the Google, Office and Adobe Creative Suite as well as learn the basics of HTML, CSS, Javascript and C++ code in producing projects individually, in partners and in small groups.
Students learn the basics of financial literacy, personal budgeting, and college costs. A final product includes an extensive 10 year plan with identified educational, career and life goals.. Activities focused on the 6 strands delineated below are interwoven throughout the year to emphasize the relationships between them and to provide relevance and motivation for all students.
