FIRE Crew: An Opportunity to Lead and Mentor

Deciding to mentor younger students shows compassion, caring, character and commitment. FIRE Crew leaders come from all backgrounds, interests, and groups. Our younger students need to see role models who look like them and can understand the worlds in which they move.

How to Become a FIRE Crew Leader

FIRE Crew AKA Peer Leaders Want to Serve Younger Students

FIRE promotes a safe-school environment and an atmosphere of peer support as next year’s junior and senior students participate as “student mentors” during the FIRE period.  (70+) FIRE Crew members are given special training and unique opportunities as they volunteer time to help to create a more inclusive campus.

This is a BIG, non-flexible commitment.  Do NOT overextend yourself as you NEED life balance.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN A FIRE CREW LEADER?

We look for well-rounded students with strengths in any number of areas. Though important, we do not focus only on academics.

  • Compassion, caring, and kindness
  • Charisma, character and (a little bit of) craziness
  • Responsible, role model
  • Something between a friend and a mentor

BEFORE APPLYING, CONSIDER...

  • Why do you want to participate as FIRE Crew?
  • What specific qualities / skills do you bring to the FIRE program as a role model?
  • Please describe what your “dream FIRE class” might look like throughout the week.
  • What is the most important part of FIRE?
  • How do you think FIRE impacts our freshdragons?
  • How, specifically, would YOU improve FIRE? How would YOU implement those changes?
